“A romantic jewel”! At Libby’s, classic European style meets mismatched elegance in an eclectically quirky and wonderful space which is the perfect backdrop for an exquisitely delicious meal. Occupying an 1898 bank with four small dining rooms, Libby’s has beautifully restored each room while maintaining the natural elegance inherent in this architectural gem. Check out the old bank vault; it now houses an impressive wine collection! Combining antiques, vintage fabrics and Victorian flair without pretense, owner/chefs Liz and Steve Jackson have created a unique ambience and dining experience. Her mantra is “it’s all about the warmth” which applies to all aspects of The Bistro. From moment you walk through the door and are greeted by the staff, …….. to the "the ahhh, I’m home feeling,"(even if it’s your first time dining there)….. to the handmade crackers and tapenade that await your arrival at your table … get ready for a treat! Liz has been well trained in cooking from childhood to the Cambridge School of Culinary Art, as well as through travels in Europe and Asia, and two stints with Julia Child in her kitchen (“In Julia Child’s Kitchen with Master Chefs” and “Baking with Julia”). She has had a long and successful catering business and has been a chef in an impressive list of fine restaurants. Libby’s is the culmination of a lifetime of experience and you will find it full of thought, talent, history and love.

I think you’ll be ridiculously impressed with the bistro from the moment you walk up the lilac scented path to a quaint garden area, one of Liz’ special hobbies. The smell of delicious spices will enticed your senses as you walk through the door. Our meals were superb, but I checked out some Trip Advisor reviews and our experience was not an isolated one. Food here is described as “melt in your mouth quality” “perfect pairing of flavors and textures” and “top notch … our entrees were clearly touched with a magic wand”. As vegetarians, the chef came to our table to inquire about specific needs and conjured up a 3 course meal that delighted all our senses. Dinners range from the high teens to the mid twenties and surpass top end Boston restaurants. On Friday evenings in the off-season, Liz serves a special menu based on a single international cuisine. Here in Gorham is a restaurant that you’d be delighted to find in Boston – or in New York, Milan or Madrid. But amazingly, it isn’t in one of these cities, it’s only a gorgeous, 20 minute drive (through moose country) from The Lodge! How lucky can you get?!
