Inn at Thorn Hill in Jackson, NHName: Inn at Thorn HillWebsite: Here Phone: (603) 383-4242 Address: Thorn Hill Road, Jackson, NH 03846 Rating:: 4 Peaks While most people come to the mountains to experience nature at its wildest and finest, we all like to indulge in a bit luxury from time to time. When that fancy strikes, the restaurant at Thorn Hill will fit the bill every time. Originally built in 1895 by renowned architect Stanford White, the inn was purchased by Jim and Ibby Cooper in 1992. Their steadfast commitment to preserving its rich heritage, architectural integrity and high standards of hospitality cemented its reputation in the local community. A tragic fire burned the inn to the ground in 2002, and was rebuilt in a grand and expanded manner the following year. The 65-seat restaurant now offers exceptional, 4-star dining, featuring three-course gourmet meals, home made delicacies and elegantly prepared desserts. It is one of only five dining rooms in the state to receive the 4-Diamond award by AAA, and the wine list is the only one in New Hampshire to have won the “Best of the Award of Excellence” this year. The excellent food and service is priced accordingly. They have an exceptional 2,500 bottle wine cellar, and serve special wine dinners regularly. The lounge menu features pub fare that is not anywhere as formal as the dining room experience, (In fact, I like it even more!). Live music is presented on Saturday and Monday evenings. We have eaten in the dining room on four separate occasions, all of them excellent, but Dana and I love dropping in under less formal circumstances as well, and either sitting by the fire in the lounge or on the expansive porch overlooking Mount Washington in warmer weather. We order a variety of items from the Pub menu and have a delightful evening out. I love the Japanese eggplant grilled with mint and rosemary, the duo of beets and the cheese and fruit platter. Dana loves the Greek burger, Pappardelle Pomodoro and the sweet potato doughnuts. Jim and Ibby took us under their wing when we moved to Jackson, not only making us feel welcome in the neighborhood, but as fellow innkeepers as well. Their hospitality is warm and generous, as are they. Directions Getting to the Inn at Thorn Hill is just a short drive from the Lodge.
