Even though my background is half German, I have yet to eat at The Bernerhof restaurant, despite the wonderful reviews we’ve received from our guests. My dad used to love German cooking, and were he still with us today, I would take him to the Bernerhof straight away!! Unfortunately, German cuisine is a bit too hale, hearty and meat oriented for my palate. In looking over the menu, however, there are a couple of salads and a soup that I could make into a meal should I ever have the opportunity to go.

In addition to the restaurant, they offer a pub menu (in the Black Bear Pub) for lighter, less formal fare. It’s a cozy atmosphere, highlighted by handsome oak woodwork, and an intimate bar, fireside lounge and candlelit tables for pub dining. The Bernerhof restaurant serves all the traditional old-world German favorites such as knockwurst, bratwurst, sauerkraut, schnitzel, stroganoff and sauerbraten you would expect to find on the menu. They even have cheese fondue. Of course nothing can hold a candle to my own mother’s German Chocolate cake, but I’ve heard that the Bernerhof has a ginger cake that will knock your socks off! Lodge guests who have eaten here have loved it and have come back to tell us so. This place is run and owned by a very nice local family, and they take great pride in their restaurant.

Getting to the Bernerhof Inn is only a few minute drive away. You make a right out of the Lodge parking lot. Go 2.5 miles to the light in Glen. Make a right onto Route 302 North and go about 2 miles. The Bernerhof Inn is located on your right
